Founded in 2005 with a passion for hospitality, Teardrop Hotels set out to transform the luxury hotel experience in Sri Lanka and its journey has proven to be a massive success over the years.
Teardrop’s collection of iconic boutique hotels and tea bungalows across Sri Lanka stand testimony to years of architectural planning, complete attention to detail, exquisite island cuisine, and unforgettable experiences.
Wallawwa, an award-winning country house hotel, was the first Teardrop property which opened in 2008, and thereafter the group added on several more small and intimate hotels with distinct identities, which have been highly acclaimed for offering a contemporary and personalised experience throughout Sri Lanka.
These include Fort Bazaar, a former merchant’s home turned into a boutique hotel, located in UNESCO Galle Fort; Kumu Beach, a luxury hotel and spa near Galle; Camellia Hills, Goatfell, and Nine Skies, located in the hill country towns of Dickoya, Nuwara Eliya, and Ella; and Lunuganga, Geoffrey Bawa’s country house estate in Bentota.

Addressing HR inefficiencies
At the time Teardrop reached out to MICHM, it had seven properties in its portfolio and handling HR seamlessly across the board was proving to be a problem.
Without a single system in place to handle all its HR operations, a lot of time, money, and effort was being spent on manual HR activities.
Driving efficiency with MIHCM’s HR solutions
The MiHCM Lite digital HR solution was implemented, leading to an enhanced employee experience.
First the Core module was implemented, followed by Employee Dynamics, the Mobile App and Analytics, and Payroll.
Then a customised service charge calculation via payroll was implemented, following by Time & Attendance and Employee Self Service modules.
Holistic, tech-driven HR outcomes
- Streamlined and consolidated HR operations of all properties via a single platform, enabling ease of operation
- Balancing HR tasks and daily tasks was optimised and made easy and efficient
- Digitised flexi shifts and mandatory off-day allocations, eliminating the hassle of carrying out these HR tasks manually
- Significant time and cost savings
‘Heartfelt thanks’ from Teardrop
Speaking about the solution, Teardrop Hotels Group HR Manager Ruvinda Nishad said: “I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire MiHCM team – especially to Hiranya, Dulanjana, Chathuranga, and Maduranga – for their exceptional support during our transition to the MiHCM system.
“From the beginning, they demonstrated a deep understanding of our requirements and worked diligently to deliver a seamless and efficient implementation. Their professionalism and commitment to meeting deadlines were truly impressive.
“Even after the system was implemented, they continue to provide us with unwavering support, always available whenever we need assistance. We are incredibly grateful for their expertise and dedication, which has made this transition smooth and successful.”
