For global apparel manufacturer Hela Clothing, a $ 200 million company with business operations comprising over 20,000 employees across 10 plants based in four countries, human resource operations were becoming one big, messy tangle.
And given its global presence, Hela Clothing needed to untangle the issues quickly and get HR on an optimal path.
This transformation was required in several areas. The company needed to optimise HR operations; increase employee efficiency, productivity, and overall engagement; and improve access to workforce insights in the best and fastest possible way.
And that’s where MICHM came in.

All knotted up
Hela Clothing’s HR was tied up in an array of troubles:
Fragmented manual HR processes in relation to recruitment, performance management, and leave management were resulting in inefficiencies and inconsistent employee experiences.
There was a severe lack of data integration and real-time insights, with HR data scattered across different systems and spreadsheets.
Complicating matters further, limited employee self-service had resulted in high dependency on HR staff for routine tasks and queries.
It was time to untangle and transform.
Unravelling the tangle
Hela Clothing reached out to MIHCM, and in no time its HR tangle was straightened out.
How did we do it?
First, key features of the MiHCM Enterprise core solution – Payroll and Attendance – were deployed as the foundation to integrate and operate the company’s system in Sri Lanka.
This was done with a single digital, cloud-based platform with seamless connectivity, while retiring its numerous legacy applications and other in-house solutions.
Having gone live within just three months and following on their proven success and stability in the Sri Lankan operation, the Payroll And attendance features were then implemented in Ethiopia, Egypt, and Kenya.
Hela Clothing then implemented the talent management, performance appraisal, and recruitment features as well.
MiHCM Analytics Solutions were also deployed later, with custom Power BI dashboards providing insights into workforce dynamics.
Seamless outcomes
Improved operational efficiency
Hela Clothing integrated the MiHCM system with its manufacturing execution system, which forms its core shop floor automation solution, streamlining HR processes, making routine tasks easier, and enabling it to better understand employee performance.
This led to increased efficiency and productivity and increased time and cost savings. Hela Clothing was able to significantly increase its payroll processing time with MiHCM Enterprise, which replaced its on-premises solution.
Enhanced data visibility
Centralised HR data enabled data-driven decision-making and strategic workforce planning. With real-time visibility into key performance indicators, Hela Clothing could make informed decisions to address workforce challenges promptly and proactively.
By exposing an isolated data source, MiHCM empowered Hela Clothing to harness the power of data analytics, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making and innovation within the organisation.
Heightened employee engagement
The self-service portal fostered engagement and enabled HR staff to focus on more strategic initiatives.
Sustainability
Actionable insights

A perfect stitch!
Speaking on the implementation, Hela Apparel Holdings PLC said: “We first implemented the Payroll and Attendance modules for Sri Lanka, and we were able to go live within just three months. Thereafter we implemented them in Ethiopia, Egypt, and Kenya. Having experienced the stability of these modules, we started rolling out the Talent Management, Performance Appraisal, and Recruitment modules.
“MiHCM Enterprise is a single solution, so once you have set up the core, you can easily expand it to the remaining modules. This is something most organisations need to hear, because many struggle with successful implementation.”
